UoM Burnley Glasshouse:
Our irrigation team has been hard at work again, this time with an above-ground project—giving the shovels a well-deserved break!
At The University of Melbourne’s Nursery Facility’s Propagation Glasshouse, our team successfully installed a suspended irrigation system. By utilising the existing glasshouse structure, they crafted an expertly designed system that ensures optimal water coverage across three distinct zones. To provide even greater flexibility, halfway isolation valves were added, allowing precise control of water flow to the plants.
A game changer for irrigation management!!
In a remarkable stride toward sustainability, our team documented the success of a major digital irrigation system upgrade at The University of Melbourne. The results are in: during the first year alone, 6.72ML of water was saved through the upgraded system—and a whopping 5.84ML of this was potable water.
This achievement highlights not only our team’s innovation but also a shared commitment with the university to build a more sustainable future.
A huge congratulations to our irrigation team for their dedication and expertise in delivering these impactful projects!
Checking in.
This year, on Thursday 12th September, we held a meaningful morning tea for R U OK? Day, bringing our team together to reflect on the importance of mental health and well-being. R U OK? Day serves as a powerful reminder to check in on those around us and to create an environment where open and genuine conversations are encouraged. It highlights how asking a simple question—”Are you okay?”—can have a significant impact on someone’s life. During the morning tea, we took the time to connect, share, and support one another, reinforcing the importance of building a culture of care and connection within our team.
19th November.
This year, we proudly observed World Toilet Day, an important initiative established by the United Nations to spotlight the 3.5 billion people worldwide who lack access to safe and reliable sanitation.
World Toilet Day aligns with the global ‘Countdown to 2030’, driving action to address the sanitation crisis and achieve Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6: water and sanitation for all by 2030.
The 2024 theme, ‘Toilets – A Place for Peace,’ highlights the critical role of sustainable sanitation in fostering healthy, stable societies. It also sheds light on the profound impact of inadequate or broken sanitation systems on individuals and communities.
By supporting this initiative, we reaffirm our commitment to raising awareness, driving change, and contributing to a future where access to safe water and sanitation is a universal reality.
