Recently we had the pleasure of working alongside Amira Mishinsky from the Remix Raingarden team, who was recently selected as the winner of the ‘Fisherman’s Bend Innovation Challenge’ being implemented in partnership with the Victorian Government, Fishermans Bend, City of Melbourne, Development Victoria and University of Melbourne Opportunity Lab.
Rain Gardens are designed to enable the filtering and management of the flow of local rainwater ensuring flooding is minimised, and the growth of plants as well as healthy habitats for animals is maximised where able. Through the use of cost-effective and sustainable drainage design, Remix Raingardens seeks to enable climate resilience using layers of locally generated waste such as concrete, wood, glass and organic matter.
Our irrigation technician Dean headed up the project, evenly applying 50L of water per week to 9 different planter boxes to test the efficiency of different soils and plants in removing pollutants, with no access to mains water or power.
To achieve this, we installed a 12v pump to draw water from a 2,000L storm water tank. The pump is powered by a heavy duty 12v battery, which is charged by a small solar panel and also powers the automatic timer.
One of the biggest challenges was finding an appropriate water emitter that would work with the low flow rate and pressure output by the pump, but the Reliable team found the right solution! It was an exciting project to be a part of and we look forward to seeing the results.
We have recently completed a small project at Melbourne Polytechnic Epping Campus. Our client sought to repurpose a warehouse into a training facility for future plumbers! As part of the project, we installed two radiant heaters, two exhausts, and two fire hose reels. It’s safe to say that our work will be subject to scrutiny from all the aspiring plumbers who will train there.
Our team had a great catch-up last weekend at Holey Moley in the CBD.
Everyone brought their A-Game (and their swings) to a great night out. There was pizza, there were drinks and there was the thirst for victory!
After a competitive start, no one was a match for our RPS dream-team Jamie, Steph, Duncan & Tam who took home the trophy, along with the glory!
Here at Reliable it’s no secret that we love to celebrate women doing awesome things.
This month some of the women from our team attended the Business & Brunch: Women in Business Event presented by Asahi. The event was headlined by media professional Jacqui Felgate, and a panel of inspirational women from all around Australia. The event was a fantastic opportunity to hear inspirational stories, and a chance to get to know more about the amazing women behind those stories.
Earlier this year a couple of our team members attended the Women in Trade Event hosted by Bowens.
The event celebrated those women leading the way for women in trades, in both our generation, and for the next generations to come!
The event presented a wonderful opportunity for networking with other women in trades and like-minded people.
A team of panellists shared their stories, and had empowering conversations around women in the building & construction industry. We look forward to seeing what next year’s event has in store!
