Key project details

  • Seamless Wireless Connectivity
  • Improved Water Management & Sustainability
  • Increased System Reliability
  • Enhanced System Efficiency

The University of Melbourne has embraced a groundbreaking irrigation technology—the Wireless Valve Link from Hunter Irrigation. This cutting-edge solution has transformed irrigation management across the complex landscaped areas of the Parkville campus by eliminating traditional wiring constraints and enhancing operational efficiency, water conservation, and sustainability.

Over a 1.5-month period, Reliable Plumbing successfully implemented the Wireless Valve Link system, providing seamless wireless control over irrigation and integrating it with the sustainably efficient and innovative Hydrawise platform. The project included:

  • Installation of 42 Wireless Solenoid Valves, fully linked to Hydrawise for automated control.
  • Upgrades to the irrigation network, including 2 new controllers and 2 controller upgrades to support wireless functionality.
  • Rewiring of 4 battery-operated valves, bringing them online with Hydrawise and eliminating the need for ongoing battery replacements and disposal.

This integration has created a smarter, more reliable, and cost-effective irrigation system that supports the university’s sustainability goals.

The Key Benefits:

Seamless Wireless Connectivity

  • Enables wireless connections over distances of up to 200 meters.
  • Eliminates the need for costly and disruptive excavation across concrete paths and driveways.

Improved Water Management & Sustainability

  • In situ pulse meters provide precise water usage monitoring, helping reduce water waste.
  • Battery valve rewiring eliminates the need for ongoing battery replacements, cutting waste and maintenance costs.

Increased System Reliability

  • Eliminates traditional copper wiring, reducing risks of wire degradation and lightning damage.
  • Provides a resilient, adaptable, and future-proof irrigation system.

Enhanced System Efficiency

  • Fully integrates with the Hydrawise platform, allowing:
    • Real-time programming updates for optimal irrigation control.
    • Remote operation and monitoring, reducing manual intervention.
    • Instant valve identification, streamlining servicing and maintenance.
  • Converts previously static valves into fully responsive digital components, enabling weather-predictive irrigation.

Reliable Plumbing’s Irrigation Team was awarded a $45,000 grant to implement this cutting-edge technology at the Parkville campus. The integration of Wireless Valve Link with Hydrawise has:

  • Maximised irrigation efficiency while reducing operational costs.
  • Enhanced water conservation efforts through precise monitoring and automation.
  • Improved long-term sustainability by reducing electronic waste and infrastructure maintenance.

This revolutionary approach to irrigation ensures that the University of Melbourne continues to lead in sustainable landscaping and smart water management. For a full overview of the product, visit: Hunter Irrigation’s Wireless Valve Link Overview
