Reliable Plumbing Services’ Irrigation & Water Management Team were approached by La Trobe University at the Bundoora Campus to undertake a series of irrigation system installation projects.

One of the major irrigation projects completed was the Academic Lawn, which showcases major events for the University and promotes a picturesque entrance surrounding the iconic moat.

The Reliable Plumbing Irrigation Team was put to the task of completing a Design and Construct Project working in conjunction with Irrigation Consultants and the University to produce a wide coverage of water supply to the Academic Lawn premier grass area.

The design had to allow for a landscape that consists of rolling hills and a sloping ground level towards the moat, and make use of the existing pump installed at the University.

All works were conducted in a live University environment, while adhering to OH&S requirements, and ensuring minimal disruption to the aesthetic presentation of the University entrance during construction.

The design also consisted of introducing an Irrigation water management control system that intelligently collects data and monitors usage of water supplied to the lawn area. This state- of-the-art technology alerts the University when water is being distributed at a rate of 15% above or below what is required, to ensure the systems are functioning smoothly at all times, protecting precious resources and maintaining site water targets.
